kickstarter:

Light it up.

Ever since he was a child, photographer Fernando Ortiz has loved a certain lonely mango tree on top of a mountain in his native Puerto Rico.

This year, he decided to give the tree a gift and illuminate it with a web of solar-powered LED lights. He successfully raised the necessary funds on Kickstarter and finished installing the lights just in time for the holidays. The neighbors are proud, the tree looks beautiful, and Ortiz is thinking about new ways to mobilize his community to make public projects together.

kickstarter:

View from the stage.

Photographer Jay Blakesberg has been shooting musicians for three decades, capturing electric moments with Tom Waits, Neil Young, Radiohead, and the Grateful Dead.

His new Kickstarter project, JAM, is a coffee-table book of live concert photography, featuring candid, sweaty images of rockers in their element.

His words on creativity, his class, and his integrity are inspiring.

Interesting how she wrote the book.

“No one can change your life except for you”

I was out having dinner last week with a guy who has just run across Australia and is currently running the length of NZ  ( http://www.richardbowles.com.au/#!about/c786 )

Naturally, we got chatting about what I do for a job. He congratulated me on my almost complete degree. I told him I was a single mum. That it was a miracle I was about to graduate.

He said ‘No it isn’t. It’s taken dedication and determination. Not a miracle. Hard work gets results.’

Ain’t that the truth! This degree, my journey over the past 4 years……it has changed my life. Living outside of my comfort zone has forced me to make some of the best decisions of my life. It has been bloody hard work, not a miracle that has gotten me there - what a wonderful realisation to have.

And isn’t this clip from Bridesmaids just the best darn thing!

I’m considering having this put on a poster and hanging it over my computer.
